WESTERN MARYLAND SURVIVORS, LLC

On May 27, 2002 WESTERN MARYLAND SURVIVORS was chartered by the State of West Virginia as a Limited Liability Corporation. Our goal is the preservation, restoration and operation of as many surviving WESTERN MARYLAND RAILWAY artifacts as we are able.

Our business plan includes the operation of a Bed and Breakfast and a Locomotive Engineering Program. Details of these projects can be read at homepage .

Our long range objective is an operating museum. There are CSX properties, like the Maryland Junction/Knobmount Yard site, that are ideal for our purpose. Other suitable sites exist also. It is hopeful that we can reach an agreement on a location and our project can proceed. We have endorsements from the West Virginia State Rail Authority, the Mineral County Commissioners, and the Mineral County Development Authority

An agreement has been entered into with a museum in Canada for the purchase of WESTERN MARYLAND RAILWAY 144, the sole surviving Alco S-2.

We have a verbal offer from the Delaware and Ulster Rail Ride for WESTERN MARYLAND 76, one of only two General Electric 44 Ton locomotives purchased.

Our current project is CSX 6574, ex WM 3799, the last remaining GP40 on the CSX roster. This locomotive was removed from road service and placed in the RCPUSH program. The program has since been changed. CSX is now using railcars to house the remote control electronics. The prime mover, main generator and traction motors have been removed. It is currently in the dead line at Waycross, Georgia. It will soon be for sale. Our intention is to buy and restore it.

We are inviting all fans and friends of the WESTERN MARYLAND RAILWAY to join us in our preservation efforts. At the present time, we are NOT a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. Therefore, membership fees are not tax deductible. Once a physical location has been acquired for the museum, we will establish non-profit status.

You can enroll as a regular member. For a membership fee of $35.00/year, you will receive a calendar, newsletter, and a 15% discount on all organization products and services.

You can enroll as a Life Member for a one time fee of $250. This will entitle you to all of the benefits of a regular member without recurring annual fees. However, you will not receive the one hour per year in the Engineering Program. It will be discounted, however, with the other products and services.

You can also enroll as a Charter Life Member for a one time fee of $500. This will include all regular member benefits plus the privilege of operating one of our WESTERN MARYLAND RAILWAY locomotives for one hour per year for life.
